small led display The Office of the County Auditor said Tuesday that there was communication, and to move quickly in the process that led to the demolition of the historic Old Wailuku Post Office, siding for the most part with the Maui County Council in its dispute with Mayor Alan Arakawa.In 2013, as demolition work progressed on the building, a feud ignited between Arakawa and the council when members discovered during a Budget and Finance Committee meeting that money earmarked for the Wailuku Post Office Rehabilitation Project was used instead to demolish the building and prepare a study for future county facilities.Both sides argued over whether the demolition was appropriate or legal. Councilors questioned whether the demolition violated the budget ordinance because council members were not notified that the $1.5 million was going toward demolition instead of rehabilitation.Arakawa said that sometimes rehabilitation requires demolition.
